TRANS-PENNINE EXPRESS

Last night, Halifax-based transport and industrial recruitment firm, Transline blew away all competition in Round 2 of the Daytona Manchester Business Cup - a four round series of endurance karting races designed to find the fastest business in the North of England.

A regular visitor to Daytona for private functions, Transline Director Jon Taylor has been very impressed with this new addition to the business calendar. He said: “Its been a fantastic evening as it has allowed us to bond with our customers in a team situation and strengthen our commercial relationship. Our clients are actually starting to pester us to come. It’s no longer optional!”

The Business Cup pits teams of 2 to 4 against each other in 90-minute Le Mans-style team endurance races. There is a minimum of three changeovers per team and the one who completes the most laps in the allotted time across the four rounds wins £500 worth of Daytona Vouchers to be spent at any of its UK venues.

Going into Round 2 a team from Tameside-based electronics giants, ‘Brother International Europe’ were leading the way with a total of 190 laps completed. At the time Brother’s European Product Manager, Chris Marshall said: We just hope our record will stand until the final round in March and if it doesn’t we’ll come back and beat it!”

Well it looks like they might have to as last night the recruiters from across the Pennines and their clients dominated with finishes of first, second and fifth. And it was Jon Taylor’s partnership with fellow Director Mark Elms that stole the show as they clocked up 197 laps and now go into Round 3 on Feb 24th in the lead.

Daytona Manchester General Manager, Michael Yau said: “After two rounds we’re delighted with the response we’re getting from businesses such as Brother International Europe and Transline. The grids are full, the racing is competitive and the atmosphere is electric. In the future we aim to build on this experiment and turn the competition into the country’s premier corporate karting competition.”

As part of the £128.66 price entrants are also treated to 10 minutes of practice, a hot buffet meal and the night’s podium finishers also receive custom engraved Daytona trophies.
